Office and Home Office Renovations in Etobicoke

Working from home stopped being temporary. We convert spare bedrooms, basements and underused dining rooms into offices that are quiet enough to take a call in and wired properly enough to run everything at once.

What we do

  • Spare bedroom and basement office conversions
  • Acoustic isolation: decoupled assemblies and solid-core doors
  • Dedicated circuits, hardwired ethernet and desk-height power
  • Layered lighting designed for video calls
  • Custom built-in desks, shelving and cable management
  • Small commercial and professional fit-outs

Sound is the problem worth spending money on

Almost everyone who calls us about a home office leads with storage or desk layout, and almost everyone who has finished one tells us afterwards that acoustic isolation was the thing that mattered most. A room that looks perfect is still unusable if the rest of the household is audible on every call.

Meaningful sound isolation means decoupling rather than just filling the wall cavity. We use resilient channel or sound-isolation clips, mineral wool batts, a second layer of drywall with a damping compound between, acoustic sealant at every perimeter joint, and a solid-core door with proper seals. Skipping the door undoes most of the wall work — it is usually the weakest element in the assembly.

Power, data and lighting that match how you actually work

A converted bedroom typically has one lighting circuit and a couple of receptacles sized for a lamp and an alarm clock. A working office with two monitors, a docking station, a printer and space heating needs dedicated circuits, and it needs them planned before the drywall goes back on.

We run hardwired ethernet where the work depends on it, place receptacles at desk height where you actually reach for them, and design lighting in layers — ambient, task, and something that stops your face being backlit on video. Colour temperature and glare on screens are worth ten minutes of thought at the design stage and are expensive to change afterwards.

Built-in millwork instead of bought furniture

Home offices are usually small rooms, and small rooms are exactly where custom millwork earns its cost. Built-ins use the full height of the wall, work around the window and radiator positions you actually have, and recover the dead space that freestanding furniture leaves behind.

We build desks, shelving, filing and cable management as one integrated unit, finished to match the rest of the house. For shared rooms we often build in a closing element — a pocket door, a sliding panel, or cabinet doors that hide the desk — so the room stops being an office at the end of the day.

Commercial and professional offices

We also take on small commercial fit-outs across Etobicoke and the west GTA: professional suites, clinics and studio spaces. These carry different requirements — barrier-free access, occupancy and egress provisions, commercial-grade finishes and after-hours scheduling so a working business keeps running.

We work to the tenant fit-out rules of the building and coordinate with property management on access, elevator booking and noise windows.

Common questions

Can you soundproof an existing home office without gutting it?

Partly. Adding a second layer of drywall with damping compound over the existing wall, sealing the perimeter, and replacing a hollow-core door with a solid-core one and proper seals gets a worthwhile improvement without demolition. Full decoupling with resilient channel needs the wall opened, and it is meaningfully more effective.

Does a home office conversion need a permit?

Converting an existing above-grade room usually does not, unless you are altering structure or changing egress. A basement office often does, because finishing a basement involves ceiling height, egress window and fire-separation requirements under the Ontario Building Code. New circuits require an ESA notification either way.

How long does a home office take?

A straightforward converted bedroom with built-ins is typically two to three weeks. Adding full acoustic treatment or a basement build-out extends that. Custom millwork is usually the long pole — we measure and order it early so it is not waiting on site.
